CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape government will announce detailed plans later this month on how it will improve service delivery to the people when newly elected premier, Ebrahim Rasool, delivers his State of the Province address on May 28.
At a media briefing yesterday, Mr Rasool said the provincial cabinet had agreed that there was a need to transform the provincial administration.
The cabinet held its first meeting yesterday following last month's general elections.
"We agreed with the need for representivity, that there is a distinct absence of women and black Africans in the administration. And, therefore, if the Western Cape is to be home for all, then the demographic composition has to start reflecting that," Mr Rasool said.
The premier said there were huge backlogs in the delivery of health and education services.
Mr Rasool said the new cabinet was committed to a new kind of government and to ensure that the next five years would be the best for all the people of the province.
"This plan will show that we mean business and will not be swayed from our stated objectives to improve the lives of our people. In the long term, we want to correct that."
