THE Nelson Mandela Metro bagged two provincial awards - a Diamond Arrow and a Gold Arrow - at the annual Professional Management Review (PMR) Africa competition for 2004/2005.
The winners were announced at an Eastern Cape business leaders' breakfast at the Boardwalk at the weekend.
Businesses and other organisations were honoured for their achievement in PMR's recent survey of business and government excellence in the province.
The Metro was named the Eastern Cape city doing the most to attract foreign and local investment and tourism.
It's Water and Sanitation division achieved second place in the water utilities section of the category for companies doing the most to enhance the province's economic growth and development.
Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism walked away with the award as the province's most active tourism agency. Recreation and cultural services portfolio councillor, Charmaine Williams, who attended the awards ceremony on behalf of Executive Mayor Nceba Faku, said the Metro was proud of the awards and that it would serve as an incentive to do even better in future.
She said the Metro would continue its drive to market itself vigorously as one of South Africa's most appealing tourist destinations, and to attract even more local and foreign investment. Williams said it all contributed to the Metro's vision to provide a better life for all its citizens.
PMR Africa conducts over 30 000 top decision-maker interviews annually in every country where it has a presence, to produce customer ratings, strengths and weaknesses.
It benchmarks business, government, professions, education and labour; providing this strategic intelligence first to analysts, investors, financiers, suppliers, prospective customers, allies and employees.
It awards top-rated companies with PMR Diamond, Gold and Silver Arrow Awards.
