The eThekwini Municipality's Community Profiles Project has put up-to-date and accurate socio-economic data on to its website that will help those involved in planning and development research take more effective decisions.

The project will serve community workers, local civic and community organisations, researchers, businesses and others in the development field.

The Corporate Policy Unit of the municipality has responded has created an electronic database that contains information for every ward and planning unit (clustering of wards for planning and service delivery purposes).

Available information includes:
  • demographic or population data;
  • economic status;
  • household types;
  • household income
  • delivery of basic household services;
  • major community facilities;
  • community needs assessment (per ward);
  • approved capital projects (per ward); and
  • ward councillor details.
The information also is also displayed spatially. In other words, for every ward, users will find a map with the boundaries of the ward clearly indicated. The location of facilities such as halls, libraries, clinics, police stations are also indicated.

Access to this information is through the municipality's website.

The website and database of information is updated by staff of the Corporate Policy Unit on an ongoing basis to ensure that the latest information is always available.
