Public Service and Administration Minister Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi has been elected to lead an international organisation that promotes good governance and sound public management practices.
She was voted the President of the Common Wealth Association for Public Administration and Management (CAMAP) at its 2006 Biennial conference currently underway in Sydney, Australia.
The conference, which started on Saturday 21 October, is held under the theme: Rising to the Challenge: Enhancing Public Sector Capability.
In her capacity as the president Fraser-Moleketi is expected to address the conference on Wednesday 25 October, highlighting the initiatives that the organisation will unfold during her two-year tenure.
CAPAM was established in 1994 to facilitate the exchange of information and knowledge on public administration among Commonwealth countries and beyond.
Its founding values include defining and promoting practical requirements of good and transparent governance.
The organisation’s programmes are widely seen as strengthening the quality and effectiveness of public administration while advancing good governance in Commonwealth countries.
Its programmes and services are designed to respond to the needs and priorities of senior public officials – elected and appointed – in the 53 Commonwealth countries.
Fraser-Moleketi is also the Vice President of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Public Administration.
