Cape Town's Robben Island has invited couples interested in taking part in this year's Valentine's Day marriages to register for the annual event. The weddings take place in the Robben Island Museum.
Since 2000, the world-renowned heritage site has been transformed into a romantic rendezvous on Valentine's Day, 14 February, by couples from all over the world.
So far, over 120 marriages have been conducted at the museum.
This year's lineup will include the first same-sex marriage to be solemnised at the museum, following South Africa's passing of the Civil Union Act of 2006. The law accords same-sex couples the same rights and status as heterosexual married couples.
Last year’s event saw a homeless couple from Cape Town getting married on Robben Island, with the Department of Home Affairs taking care of the costs.
Couples wishing to participate are advised to contact Milly Phillips at: +27 (0)21 462-4994 or Angela Joshua at: +27 (0)21 465-1183.
Registration should be made before 9 February.
