CAPE TOWN
Lecture on marketing plans for 2010

27 February 2009

THE Green Point Stadium Visitors Centre is to host a lecture entitled “What it takes to become a FIFA sponsor, and marketing plans for the 2010 World Cup” as part of its 2010 lecture series.

Gavin Cowley, marketing director of adidas SA, will talk about the company’s symbolic and unique brand personality, as well as its long association with football’s governing body. adidas has partnered with FIFA for over 35 years, and has provided the official match ball for World Cup tournaments since 1970.

As the project leader for the 2010 FIFA World Cup for adidas South Africa, he will also present the company’s marketing plans for the World Cup.

Cowley believes that sport can play a major role in uniting the country. “Business and sport can learn from each other. Discipline, teamwork, unity, vision and many other attributes are equally applicable whether in the boardroom or in the field,” he says.

Cowley has a string of sporting achievements to his name, from cricket to hockey, rugby and soccer. He is a rugby commentator for M-Net Supersport.
