PHASE 1
Workshop on Sustainable municipal finance in Southern Africa
The project will do this by providing knowledge, technical assistance and credit advice to sub-national government entities in Southern Africa to a) build their capacity to better manage their financial affairs; b) facilitate the entry of the region’s creditworthy cities and sub-national entities into the regional municipal finance market and c) assist other subnational entities and local governments to achieve creditworthiness.

Urban Development Partnership seminar
Recognising that there is an increasingly favourable environment for urban development partnerships in South Africa, there is a need to step up the identification and design of suitable projects led by local government in anticipation of new funding for urban infrastructure, Financial Sector Charter targets and continued growth in the property market. This one-day seminar gave participants the opportunity to discuss the potential for urban development partnership projects and the support and incentives that are available for these projects.

Municipalities are struggling to deal with the transport crisis facing SA cites. To meet this challenge, eThekwini has set up South Africa's first Transport Authority (TA) and also read the Gautrain Initiatives.
