Grist tell the untold stories, spotlight trends before they become trendy, and engage the apathetic. They are independent in their coverage; throw brickbats when they're needed and bestow kudos when they're warranted. And while they take their work seriously, they don't take themselves seriously, because of the many things this planet is running out of, sanctimonious tree-huggers ain't one of them.

Grist is based in the Emerald City of Seattle, in the Evergreen State of Washington, with contributors scattered the world 'round. Grist is a nonprofit organization funded by foundation grants, reader contributions, and just a touch of advertising. Their website and email services are free -- and worth every penny. Grist: it's gloom and doom with a sense of humor. So laugh now -- or the planet gets it.

TreeHugger is a fast-growing web magazine, dedicated to everything that has a modern aesthetic yet is environmentally responsible. Its goal is to make sustainability mainstream and to be the one-stop for the environment. If you want doom & gloom, this is not the place. They are looking for solutions, constructive developments and positive initiatives.

WorldChanging.com works from a simple premise: that the tools, models and ideas for building a better future lie all around us. That plenty of people are working on tools for change, but the fields in which they work remain unconnected. That the motive, means and opportunity for profound positive change are already present. That another world is not just possible, it's here. We only need to put the pieces together. They pay special attention to tools, ideas and models that may have been overlooked in the mass media. They make a point of showing ways in which seemingly unconnected resources link together to form a toolkit for changing the world.
