HIV and Aids are arguably the greatest challenges facing South Africa in recent times.

IT is crucial that South African cities tackle vigorously the epidemic as it increasingly affects the social and economic life of the country. In particular, HIV and Aids have a disproportionate impact on the black urban poor, vastly increasing poverty when combined with high unemployment, low household incomes, the breakdown of traditional support systems and lower access to services. The South African Cities Network investigates initiatives taken by municipalities, highlights good practices and outlines the components of good practice standards suggested by international models and research. The research findings contribute to the strengthening of South African cities in responding to the pandemic. ProjectsProgramme Research series Study Alliance |
