Water Resilient Cities Reference Group

This group is convened by SACN and SALGA in partnership with various international development agencies. Members are the managers responsible for water services and water management in SACN member cities as well as a selection of secondary cities. Since 2018, recognising the complexity of the challenges confronting city water managers; the trade-offs that they have to make in financing service provision or infrastructure maintenance; the growing funding gap for capital expenditure; as well as declining municipal revenue streams, the partners have been running learning events aimed at:

  • Promoting engagement and providing effective platforms for peer-to-peer learning
  • Enabling solution seeking conversations to take place between City Water Managers, industry experts, knowledge institutions and other tiers of government
  • Building capacity and capability amongst City Water Managers and practitioners
  • Developing innovative responses to water security and resilience challenges

Each event is guided by participant feedback (from city managers and practitioners, water specialists in the public and private sectors, civil society organisations and regional and international experts) on topics that require further discussion, exploration and collaboration.
